In the first year, students study core modules including mathematics, design, digital systems, electronics, mechanics, pilot studies (based on the PPL ground school syllabus) and an introduction to aerospace engineering; a flight training programme of 20 hours is mandatory; this is followed in the 2nd year by modules in, for example, aerostructures, aeroengines, aircraft performance, communications, avionic systems, instrumentation and pilot studies (based on the ATPL); during the final 2 years of the programme, students commence a major 2-year group aerospace design and 2-year individual project in addition to the taught subjects in topics such as aerodynamics, flight dynamics and control, radio frequency engineering and management; in their final year, students continue the group design and individual project work and obtain an in-depth understanding in selected areas including flight handling qualities, rotorcraft flight and advanced guidance systems.
