University of South Wales (former University of Glamorgan), BA (Hons), Fashion Promotion
Through a series of industry-led modules, this course gives students the opportunity to develop skills in the fundamental areas of fashion promotion: advertising; art direction; fashion photography; digital media and moving image; fashion styling; brand development; fashion illustration; fashion editorial journalism; market and consumer research; public relations; show production; trend forecasting; visual merchandising; during their studies students are encouraged to develop and maintain extensive contacts throughout fashion-related industry, to aid their professional progression prior to graduation. Year 1: Throughout the 1st year, students develop key skills in many of the areas outlined above through a series of short inter-disciplinary projects; there are regular student trips to London for fashion shows, exhibitions and events and all students are also given the opportunity to go on a group study visit to 1 of the international fashion capitals of the world including Paris, Milan, New York or Tokyo. Year 2: during the 2nd year, students develop a greater theoretical understanding and analytical approach to their studio practice, through comprehensive industry-led briefs including: brand development; market and consumer research; trend forecasting. Year 3: on successful completion of the 2nd year, students are given the option to work for a year in industry on a full-time placement in 1 or more fashion-related companies; this gives students a valuable insight into the realities of such a fast-paced industry, which in turn informs and refines their studio practice; students also have the opportunity to further broaden their student experience and participate in the international student exchange program during this year. Final year: the final year encourages students to work in a self-directed manner throughout a series of highly individual projects, both for inclusion in their portfolio as well as for national and international competitions; the final major project asks students to design and create a promotional campaign of their choice, with an in-depth creative fashion marketing report to support their project.
