This is a specialist programme and emphasises highly creative design and students’ use of both traditional and new technology; it also enables students to develop textile design skills and their understanding of a rapidly changing industry; students are able to experience the range of different design options during the 1st year, from which they may choose their specialist area of study in either printed, woven or knitted textile design; initially students enjoy an introduction to different aspects of textile design, followed by opportunities to develop a range of skills and knowledge, including: visual research; technical skills; creative design; communication; history and theory framework; an awareness of the international industry; there are opportunities to study abroad through links in Vienna or Finland; a European professional and cultural fieldtrip is generally undertaken in the 2nd year of study; application deadline: March 2010.
