University of Cumbria, BA (Hons), Film and Television Production
Year 1: Whereas the course gives students a broad range of skills and understanding during the 1st year, they cover areas such as documentary, scriptwriting and short film production as well as music video and television production; the course focuses on the real world of film and television production; students follow current professional practice and learn to operate the same equipment as industry professionals; they also learn to consider the place of new distribution technology as a possible method of distributing their work to viewers. Year 2: students develop their skills and study the theory behind current media issues; students choose specialist pathways from the areas covered in the 1st year: scriptwriting; television news; television studio production; music videos; experimental film; documentary; as part of the 2nd year, students undertake a short work placement which they organise to align with their area of interest; the course team encourages students to use their time on the course to make independent work. Year 3: in the final year, students research and produce a dissertation, and 2 practical projects in any selected media.
