The aim of this course is to provide a basic higher education qualification that will equip a wide range of NHS staff to meet the challenges of the increasing use if information technology within the NHS; the course aims to help students to: understand health informatics issues and their impact on patient care, the NHS, and colleagues; be proactive in information management; identify problems and potential solutions, understand, translate and communicate the information needs of data consumers within the NHS; have the tools, skills and knowledge to use, manipulate and present information in a variety of ways; evaluate and reflect on practice to develop the personal qualities and professional skills to manage career development; appreciate the benefit of working in partnership with colleagues and other functions of the organization; appreciate professional responsibilities as a health information; help to develop the skills and competencies to cope with the changes taking place in the working environment; develop career options as a health informatics professional.
