This new course enables doctors, paramedics and other practitioners likely to encounter acute cardiovascular emergencies to deal effectively with the differential diagnosis and early management of this group of patients; in particular, the course advances theoretical knowledge of acute cardiology by exploring current evidence for differential diagnosis and treatment. Practitioners are equipped with the necessary clinical skills to use this evidence towards good practice; the course will have particular appeal for doctors and other health professionals working in an emergency setting or in areas where access to emergency services is not readily available, such as cruise ships and oil rigs; students are normally expected to be working in a setting where emergency cardiovascular events are likely to be encountered; each module is taught over a 5-day week; teaching staff are nationally and internationally renowned experts in cardiology and provide a broad range of learning experiences through hands-on clinical skills activities, lectures, group work and discussion.
