The course provides the knowledge for understanding town planning as a profession with reference to how people and places interact; students examine the unique needs and characteristics of different places and people and analyse the management of the impact and interaction they have with their environmental context; 1 key objective is to address the shortage of qualified town planners available to work in local authorities, government offices and private practices in the south-east of England; the programme provides the academic and professional core knowledge, understanding, skills and experience that are necessary to practice professionally as town and country planners; students are equipped to critically evaluate how the physical development of urban and rural places is regulated to bring about the best social and economic outcome, through an understanding of the issues which make up the complex nature of the built environment.
