The study of computer science provides a foundation from which students can progress onto higher degrees and into computing vocations; the artificial intelligence element attempts to study and understand underlying principles behind intelligent systems; the artificial intelligence element of the course involves a study of artificial intelligence techniques in areas such as knowledge based systems, games, machine learning, natural language understanding and generation, machine vision, neural networks, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms and theorem proving; the emphasis of the course is to provide vocationally skilled programmers who have both a general overview of computer science and more detailed knowledge and skills of an area such as internet programming, database applications, artificial intelligence applications or networking.
