University of Abertay Dundee, BA (Hons), Visual Communications and Media Design
Stage 1: In 1st year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of visual design and media content production alongside software application development and establishing personal approaches to design and production practices; this is the stage where academic practices and attitudes to study are established. Stage 2: Professional skills and practices and technical and procedural skills reach an advanced level; attitudes to how these skills can be deployed in support of creativity and innovation are established and communications skills are developed through group and project work. Stage 3: Students are expected to become a confident design practitioners and develop a mature visual style through sustained personal effort over a range of projects; by the end of stage 3 all students have knowledge of how to enter the professional world of media design. Stage 4: The final or Honours year gives students the opportunity to undertake a significant and sustained design or production project individually or in a cross discipline group; students graduating from this stage understand the contextual factors that inform design practices and explore a particular cultural, entertainment or communications context in which to explore the application of their skills and knowledge in the production of design solutions.
