Year 1: Introduction to key problems, debates and skills in the history of art; a survey of Western art with seminars based on close study of works of art in London; normally study of a relevant foreign language; normally work on the required component subject (either anthropology or history or philosophy). Year 2: study of techniques in art, of the historiography and methodology of art, and seminar work, often involving close study of objects, leading to a deeper understanding of specific periods or problems in the history of art; work in the component subject continues. Year 3: normally work on 2 special subjects, and an undergraduate report.
