This course aims to allow students to extend their qualification profile to a level expected in industry and in other career paths; students use the year to develop their chosen field of practice to a professional level through self directed and negotiated study; live, competition and experimental assignments form the core of study backed up by a substantial research project; students are introduced to industry level professional projects ranging from international design or film festival set assignments to briefs set by live clients; students are encouraged to nurture industry contacts for experience, advice and input; a strong and supportive tutorial and mentorship programme is operated by staff whose role it is to act as consultants and facilitators for student projects; group work is encouraged and workshops are delivered in higher end technical or creative subjects ranging from preparing work for broadcasts; contextual enquiry is developed further with a clearer focus on each students own subject specialism through a substantive research project resulting in a comprehensive report and presentation.
