Plymouth Marjon, BA (Hons), Sports Media
Year 1: Provides basic knowledge and production skills; covers key concepts, ideas and debates relating to sports organistions and sports broadcasting; students learn to apply production techniques in a sporting context using video, photography, sound and new media, and begin creating their own sports media products. Year 2: Compulsory module in research looks at a variety of research techniques and approaches to information sourcing and provides students with the framework for advanced study; further compulsory module work-based learning skills and approaches sets up the work-related study for Year 3: there is a broad range of further options allowing students to focus their sports-related media skills in journalism, new media, moving image or photography. Year 3: 8-week work placement in the 1st semester develops the application of skills in a working context; this is followed up with a range of theory or applied options in areas such as sports photography, webcasting for sports production or sports journalism; students also undertake a dissertation, which can be in the form of an extended essay, or a combination of photographs, video or new media.
