Plymouth Marjon, BA (Hons), Outdoor Adventure
Year 1: This year concentrates on outdoor adventure processes at a personal level; outdoor adventure is examined through its underpinning philosophy, historical antecedents, significant influences, environmental and sustainable aspects and contemporary issues; the student also evaluates its role in personal and social development and gains practical skills in land and water-based sports. Year 2: This year increases academic, personal and group work skills and encourages leadership development by focusing on: responsibility; challenge; safety; sustainability; ethics and values; modules include elements such as: journeys; environmental management; creative outdoor study; spirituality; journeying in the mountains involves a residential week in North Wales. Year 3: This year focuses on outdoor adventure at a professional and organisational level; the place and value of the outdoors is examined to develop the student’s understanding of: planning; monitoring; reviewing; facilitation; environmental awareness and judgement; the student undertakes work based learning and a dissertation.
