Course aims: to promote and develop independent critical and creative engagement with the complexity and sophistication of literary, non-literary texts and media; to encourage verbal creativity, critical self-reflection and an awareness of cultural and linguistic production and reception of meaning; to develop transferable skills relevant to a range of different employment opportunities; to develop an awareness and appreciation of the cultural importance of English and media studies; to develop students’ critical awareness of the new communications technologies and their impact on traditional media.
