The High School Record—Students must complete at least 16 college preparatory units as follows: College PrepSubject Units English 4 Social Studies 2 Mathematics 3 Laboratory Science (e.g. biology, chemistry, physics) 2 A foreign language 2 Additional credits in any of the categories above 3. At least one of the following: -the new, redesigned SAT (Reading/Writing/Language and Math) and two SAT Subject Tests in fields related to their proposed area of study. The SAT Essay is optional. -the ACT. Writing is optional. The natural science and engineering divisions require trigonometry (precalculus) or other advanced mathematics courses and both chemistry and physics. Students may substitute a second year of chemistry or biology for physics.

Location

Houston has two airports: William P. Hobby (HOU), 11 miles to the south of campus and George Bush Intercontinental (IAH), 24 miles to the north. Intercontinental is a hub of global travel. Hobby is a hub for regional, domestic travel. Together they offer 1,000 flights a day in and out of Houston.


Most major rental car companies have locations at both airports. SuperShuttle and taxis provide ground transportation services from both airports.


The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, (METRO) provides bus and rail service from destinations around Houston. There is a METRORail stop across the street from the main entrance of the Rice campus. The rail line travels up and down Main Street, serving downtown, the Texas Medical Center and Reliant Park.
