Year 1: Modules may include: Introduction to education studies; classrooms and learning environments; teachers, teaching and pedagogy; interpersonal approaches in education; individual development in an educational context. Year 2: modules may include: the politics of education; learning processes; education, imagination and creativity; knowledge and ideology of education; education, equality and identity; research in education; individual differences. Year 3: modules may include: educational systems and social change; educational and the new technologies; education: contested values and praxis; learning theory: historical and contemporary perspectives; safeguarding children; critical theory and education; research dissertation. Management studies Whilst studying this course the student acquires a wide range of leadership and management skills, including: finance and budget management; human resource management; marketing; the course provides the student with an understanding of the latest management techniques and theories; the student also studies factors that influence organisational success and how companies and organisations can influence those factors through their own behaviour and policies; areas of management covered on the course may include: financial management; marketing management and strategy including e-marketing and international marketing; managing and developing staff; business and strategic planning; human resource development; change management; quality management; project management; the student examines the techniques employed by successful organisations and companies and uses cases to identify different approaches and strategies which can be used to improve business performance; central to this course is the belief that successful management is about understanding people and the environment they work in; skills desirable to employers and a holistic understanding of what it takes to manage are learned alongside the development of a strategic approach to analysing the factors affecting the functioning of organisations.
