Applicants must demonstrate a strong visual sense and a good understanding of narrative; previous training in these areas is not mandatory but some basic technical knowledge is required; experience gained from working in the camera department of the film and television industry is helpful but not essential; applicants also need good communication skills; collaborative and leadership qualities and an understanding of the role of the director of photography and its creative and logistical responsibilities; the showreel submitted at application should be of a good technical standard and show both creativity and a strong sense of visual narrative.
