Year 1: In the 1st year the student looks at: the historical and contemporary approaches to education policy; the psychological approaches to learning; the study of early childhood, which includes the social construct of childhood and child development; an introduction to the study of philosophy in relation to education; the modules are as follows: an introduction to early childhood studies and child development; education policy: historical and contemporary perspectives; introduction to philosophy; psychological approaches to learning. Year 2: in years 2 and 3 the student develops all of the areas covered in year 1, plus the following modules: comparative education and related issues; curriculum studies Key Stage 2 and beyond; education and equality; special needs, disability and inclusion (optional); working and researching in organisations 1 (optional). Year 3: in year 3 the student has the opportunity to conduct an independent research project, gain practical experience in a placement and has a choice of modules; all the modules are optional and are as follows: children's literature; children's rights; disaffection and counselling in education; education rights and the law; proposition module; working and researching in organisations 2.
