The MRes provides research training for doctoral students and research workers researching in management and business related areas; it is offered as a free-standing qualification and as the first year of the 1+3 doctoral programme, which is recognised by the ESRC; all students registered for a research degree in management are Affiliate members of the MMU Research Institute for Business and Management (RIBM); the programme focuses on both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, data collection techniques and methods of analysis including ethnography case study, aesthetics, phenomenology, hermeneutics, socio-cultural theories, activity theory, pragmatism, semiotics, post-structuralism and deconstruction, together with computer-assisted qualitative analysis, sampling and statistical and computer-based quantitative analysis (SPSS).
