The units will include: fashion design - build on existing drawing and illustration skills to research and design highly creative yet commercial garments; pattern construction - create blocks and patterns for designs and learn to grade them to a variety of sizes, to industrial specifications both manually and using a computer; garment manufacture - learn to assemble garments according to the quality levels of the market, whether it be haute couture or mass market; production management - understand how to cost garment designs and plan their manufacture in a production line; business studies - put together a business plan and learn how to set up a business and understand marketing, advertising, legislation and people management; textiles - understand about fibres and yarns and how fabrics are constructed and created and how to use the appropriate fabrics to complete designs; CAD - understand how computer aided design is utilised in all areas of the clothing industry, design, pattern, cutting, grading lay planning and how computerisation of product data management (PDM) has improved the running of business within manufacturing and large retail outlets.
