Students begin by studying the criminal practice course and the civil practice course, taking them through the different stages of litigation, including evidence and sentencing; later students take part in mock trials and choose 2 options for further study and skills development; the knowledge areas covered are: Civil litigation; criminal litigation and sentencing; and evidence; students build core skills in: advocacy; conference skills; drafting; fact management; legal research skills; negotiation and opinion writing; sample options include: advanced civil litigation; advanced criminal litigation; alternative dispute resolution and mediation; commercial practice; family practice; immigration practice; judicial review practice; pro bono and employment practice; students also cover professional ethics in accordance with the Bar Council’s Code of Conduct.
