This university encourages the development of work through independent inquiry and students engage in a diverse range of exploratory practices that utilise new technologies; interdisciplinary techniques and traditional approaches such as performance; installation; painting; printmaking and sculpture; emphasis is on helping students to develop their practice without imposing what might be termed a house style; this, combined with an approach that encompasses both the traditional and the innovative; helps students secure a sound basis from which to produce original and highly personal outcomes; building on the technical workshops and concepts explored during the structured first level of the course students gain the necessary confidence and independence to propose their own area of interest and enquiry; in the second level students test their methods, and develop a set of working practices that underpin the production of a substantial body of work at level 3.
