The taught element encompasses both subject specific and transferable skills modules chosen to encompass such areas as: modern analytical techniques for chemistry; computational techniques (use of databases); molecular and cell biology of diseases; biomarkers of autoimmunity; critical evaluation of scientific literature; writing and presentational skills; the research element requires students to undertake a cutting-edge research project under direct supervision; successful Diploma candidates are allowed to proceed to the MSc project thesis module; the course provides graduates or suitably qualified health professionals with training in the background skills of cell biology and chemistry required for modern day medical sciences.
