Major research areas: rheology (mainly interested in the flow behaviour of elastico-viscous liquids, namely materials that are predominantly fluid in behaviour but have some of the elastic properties usually associated with solids); applied nonlinear analysis (concentrates on aspects of real and functional analysis that are pertinent to the study of systems of nonlinear partial differential equations; the semigeostrophic equations are a model for atmospheric and oceanic flows which can accurately represent such large scale features as fronts, inversion layers, and the drag exerted by mountain ranges).
