For international students, the move from high school in your home country to a university in the U.S. can be challenging – a new language, new ways of learning and a new home. The International Accelerator Program (IAP) eases this transition by combining credit-bearing courses from the first year of your degree with additional support, teaching and cultural experiences, helping to ensure your future success.

The International Accelerator First-Year Experience

  • English language and academic support throughout the program. This support allows you to join year one of a U.S. undergraduate degree directly from secondary school (subject to entry requirements) with an IELTS 5.0 or TOEFL iBT 60.
  • Flexible. Depending on your qualifications, you can join one of three different IAP options. Don’t meet the English language requirements? No problem, we also offer a pre-sessional Intensive English Program.
  • Concierge Support Services. IAP students have access to exclusive concierge services such as a 24/7 support line for all inquiries, large or small, and a dedicated travel arrangement service with STA Travel.
  • A team of IAP student advisors will provide you with support on all issues, academic and personal, and practicalities such as airport pickup, opening a bank account and cell phone registration.
  • Small class sizes allow greater individual attention and tailored support.
  • A year-long orientation. Orientation does not end after your first week at university. Starting on day one, and continuing throughout the entire IAP, we prepare you for academic and career success through community projects, cultural experiences in South Carolina, career support and networking.
  • Study with U.S. and international students. Although you’ll benefit from a curriculum tailored for international students, you will live and take classes alongside U.S. students and connect with our student mentors, who are current American and International students at USC.

LIVE, LEARN, GROW

The Live, Learn, Grow course is unique to the International Accelerator Program at the University of South Carolina. This course gives you the social, professional and academic skills to succeed beyond the IAP. Best of all, it includes eight cultural experiences that connect you with your fellow students and your community. These experiences might include cheering on the Gamecocks at a foorball game or taking a boat ride around the famous harbor in Charleston, South Carolina’s moth charming and historic city.

Modules

IAP students take a core curriculum and choose one of three academic tracks:

  • Humanities and Social Science
  • STEM and Computer Science
  • Business and Finances

Entry requirements

USC offers several ways for international students to enter the first year of their undergraduate degree. The entry path that is best for you will depend on your academic qualifications, English language level and personal preferences.
