The consolidation of practice module enables students to reflect critically upon their practice/experience in accordance with published generic and specialist standards; the social work and social justice module delivers an invaluable overview of relevant legislation in relation to equality, whilst the learning from experience module provides a grounding in the nature and principles of experiential learning;those who choose the adult pathway build a better knowledge of the wants, needs and experiences of service users; students critically explore the process of assessment of need, and planning and commissioning of services for adult service users; the effectiveness of practices which are intended to manage risk, safeguard adults and promote choice, independence and well being are also considered; those specialising in children, young people, their families and carers investigate the nature of the contemporary family, current policy and the legal framework which informs their practice; students gain a greater understanding of children with complex needs, of assessments based around risk and resilience and how to utilise research; the complex social, psychological and emotional needs of looked-after children, including those in institutions, are closely examined.
