The course trains students in scholarly research techniques, and allows them to demonstrate their ability to undertake doctoral research thereafter, should they so wish; both are achieved through the completion of a postgraduate research project, during which expert supervision is provided, together with training in skills appropriate to the project; course provides: understanding of the historiography of research topic; training in sources and methods necessary to complete that research; acquisition of skills relevant to research, such as training in a foreign language, or computer-based management and analysis of historical information, or economic theory and analysis, or social theory and analysis.
