The programme offers knowledge and skills in undertaking social research and evaluation, leading to careers as a researcher, research manager, commissioner or user of research; the course provides training in the methods and approaches used in applied social research, including: skills and knowledge required to collect, analyse and report qualitative and quantitative data, taking account of ethics, reliability and validity; examine critically the theoretical foundations that underpin social scientific research; examine issues concerning comparative social research; develop understanding of the relationship between research and policy and the meanings of evaluation, its terminology, practice and use.
