This course offers a comparative perspective on the modern history and contemporary development of East Asia through language classes and lecture-based modules; specialised non language options include modern history, contemporary society, business, economics, population and environment, and identity; students learn skills in management, including topics such as operations management, marketing, information technology skills, management information systems, behaviour at work and accounting; the core modules for the programme cover East Asia as a whole, and students may also take any of the single country modules offered by the school and are encouraged to take either an East Asian language option or modules in a subject such as politics, economics or sociology; language classes are small, and students use the target language and script from day 1; the 1st year of language study covers all skills, from reading and writing to speaking and listening; later, the focus shifts to more advanced and vocational skills in writing, summary, translation, debate and oral presentation; the year abroad is a great opportunity for students to expand their language skills and their understanding of local society and culture.
