The Science Foundation Programme is designed for both United Kingdom and international students whose school leaving qualifications do not meet the current admissions requirements for direct entry to undergraduate programmes in science. Applications from mature students or students holding 'non-standard' qualifications and/or relevant experience are positively encouraged.

When students enroll on the Science Foundation Programme at Nottingham they become a full member of the undergraduate community at the University on its beautiful parkland campus. As an undergraduate student on year zero of degree programme, students will have full access to all the opportunities and facilities that the University has to offer. In fact, unlike many foundation programmes, the Nottingham foundation programme is delivered on the main University campus by academic staff from within the Science and Engineering Faculties. This ensures that the foundation course is fully integrated into the degree programme, and that the topics covered during the foundation stage are perfectly matched to subsequent stages of  the course. For this reason the success rate for students progressing from the Nottingham Foundation Programme is very high.

Students who successfully complete the Foundation Programme will be guaranteed progression onto one of a number of undergraduate degrees in the following departments:

  • School of Biology
  • School of Biomedical Sciences
  • School of Biosciences
  • School of Computer Science
  • School of Mathematical Sciences
  • School of Physics and Astronomy
  • School of Psychology (international students only)

The route students take depends on the modules one selects during the Science Foundation programme. Progression is subject to having taken the correct pre-requisite modules and passed to the appropriate level during the Science Foundation programme. Please note: for Master of Nutrition course, progression to the first year is subject to a successful interview.

Location

Considered as “one of Britain’s most vibrant and cosmopolitan cities” Nottingham is located in the East Midlands in the heart of England, less than two hours from London by train. The city boasts a large and diverse student population that is integral to the city itself. In addition to its impressive history and famous legends, Nottingham is a culturally diverse and vibrant city ideally suited towards student life.

The city's excellent transport links make it the ideal location from which to explore. Local, regional, national and international travel couldn't be easier from here. Furthermore, due to its variety of public transport and cycle routes, Nottingham has been named as the least car dependent city in the UK.

There are flights to an exciting range of national and international destinations from East Midlands Airport, one of the UK’s fastest growing airports. A number of budget airlines run services from East Midlands, which is only 40 minutes from Nottingham city centre on the 24 hour Skylink bus service.
