Course addresses problems associated with population stagnation and decline and redistribution in the developed world (issues of ageing, international migration and internal distribution, amongst others) and those associated with population growth and environment in the developing world (issues of fertility decline, disease and mortality control and urbanisation, amongst others); course aims to provide an understanding of the processes of historical and contemporary population change, in developed and in developing countries; provide an analytical skills base for the collection, management and use of population and associated data; provide the opportunity to apply the knowledge and techniques of population analysis in the elaboration of a particular demographic problem; provide training in a basic range of competences in population analysis as a platform for public and private sector employment; provide training in a basic range of competences in population analysis as a platform for more specialist research in the field; provide a grounding in research skills.
