Students can choose from a range of modules covering the history and politics of contemporary Ireland as well as modules on Anglo-Irish media and political communications; the course develops students awareness of the theoretical and empirical debates surrounding the development of relevant political institutions and political and historical cultures of the UK, Ireland and beyond; it allows students to apply generic and specific research methodologies to the study of contemporary politics and Irish studies; it assists students in the analysis of Ireland’s historical development, location within the international political system and global image; the course provides students with transferable skills: Research planning; organisation and analytical skills; analytical; debating and communication skills; qualitative and quantitative analysis skills; and it familiarises students with advanced, multi-disciplinary research methodologies within the arts and social sciences.
