This programme includes modules in the archaeology, culture, society and history of ancient Egypt using the latest archaeological methods and techniques; students also acquire language skills and the knowledge required in order to understand and work on the material remains and inscriptions from ancient Egypt; year 1 introduces the history, archaeology and the hieroglyphic script and a broad study of archaeological methods; in year 2, a range of subjects central to our understanding of ancient Egypt is covered including art, religion, archaeological theory and historical texts; in the final year, students write a dissertation involving personal research into a topic of particular interest along with modules including Egyptian foreign relations, social life, settlement archaeology, Ramesside archaeology and optional further Egyptian language modules.
