Modules give a thorough grounding in modern statistical methods and cover probability and inference, regression, design and analysis of experiments, sampling, multivariate analysis, analysis of discrete data and modern computational statistics; applications are drawn from a wide variety of areas including statistical ecology, medical statistics, bioinformatics, Bayesian statistics, nonparametric methods, stochastic processes, time series analysis and financial risk analysis; applicants gain experience of analysing real data problems through weekly practical classes and exercises; recent project topics have included epidemic modelling, analysis of data related to drug abuse in sport, modelling financial time series and several topics in modern genetics, bioinformatics and proteomics.

Location

The University of Kent has three campuses in the UK, situated in Canterbury, Medway, and Tonbridge. It also has sites in Europe, at Paris, Brussels and Athens.

The main campus- Canterbury campus is built on 300 acres of parkland and is less than 25 minutes’ walk from the historic cathedral city of Canterbury. Canterbury is a vibrant city with a warm and friendly atmosphere, within easy reach of London, France and Belgium. There is a free coach service between Medway and Canterbury campuses.
