Accounting provides students with a sound basis for progression to careers in accounting or with an accounting bias, as well as for careers in general management; it also affords a good preparation for professional accounting qualifications; accounting as a major subject provides subject exemptions from the examinations of 2 of the UK professional bodies: the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA); human resource management enables students to take a broader view of issues and trends in employment, nationally and internationally; it therefore provides a basis for a career in human resource management, training or industrial relations, or in other employment related fields; students are able to obtain exemption from examinations of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development provided they follow a defined professional route, and undertake a personnel related work placement, including a project.
