This programme offers a range of modules that provide an opportunity to go outside not only English, but also British literature, and to do so in terms of what have traditionally been seen as extra-literary considerations of gender, class and race; students look at literature in relation to other forms of culture: visual art; film; television; journalism and creative writing; 1 of the main objectives is to question and analyse competing notions of the literary, and to examine the distinctions between so-called 'high' and 'popular' culture.
