Journalists in this age of digital news are expected to create blogs and podcasts, shoot and edit digital photos and videos, and prepare content for interactive websites and mobile phones; on this course students develop the skills needed to use these new convergent technologies; they also learn how to use a whole range of high end software applications, as well as building up practical skills in photojournalism, video journalism and podcast editing; but while news delivery is changing, the traditional skills required for the job are not; journalists still need to gather news, interview people, and write news reports and features with accuracy, brevity and clarity; students concentrate on developing these core journalistic skills too, and look at media law and ethics, public administration, and shorthand note taking.
