This a joint Honours course which allows the student to study 2 subjects in equal proportions; media production is designed to develop students’ production skills in media writing and video production in the context of a conventional industry model; students consider real world issues such as audience needs and effective team working whilst engaging on production activity that emulates professional practices; this may include working with performing arts students, setting up focus groups or pitching project ideas to a panel of tutors and professional film-makers; the music programme focuses on music as an applied art, 1 that is engaged with the musical world in all its diversity and excitement, from improvisation, composition and professional performance to music therapy and community music, as well as the traditional music analysis and critical theory; there are regular professional concerts and masterclasses on campus, free to students, as well as the chance to experience similar events at major United Kingdom conservatoires.
