The course provides an opportunity to train as a specialist teacher of chemistry for those who do not have chemistry as a major part of their science degree; the course offers a period of personal development in chemistry running from January to June, which consists of 12 hours at he University and 12 hours of independent study per week; on successful completion of this phase, students follow the 1-year PGCE secondary science course with the opportunity to gain credits towards a Master’s level qualification and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS); a broad base of fundamental chemistry concepts are covered, with particular emphasis on the relevant real-life experiences to generate interest and excitement.
