This course offers a wide ranging education, enabling the student to develop their own design interests whilst gaining a rich variety of technical, presentational and professional skills; they are encouraged to take creative risks and think in radical ways about their project work; the programme shares key aspects of its curriculum with the School's degrees in fine art, graphic design and illustration; this emphasises the links between interior space and form, fine art installations, typology and colour theory and enables students to develop knowledge and skills across a range of 2- and 3-dimensional disciplines; the curriculum includes, wherever possible, opportunities to enter a variety of prestigious national and international design competitions; the study of the theory and context of art and design is linked closely with the studio practice through the contemporary issues and dissertation modules; throughout the year a range of guest speakers give talks on art and design matters as part of the platform lectures; international field trips are organised across the disciplines wherever possible; students are expected to visit a wide range of exhibitions and buildings of interest; this is fundamental to the understanding of contemporary design and art practice; application deadline: March 2010.
