The student’s own personal creativity and artistic expression are the main focus on this course; through a wide-ranging programme of studio activities that help them to acquire practical expertise, they are encouraged to develop their own artistic interests and learn to think and work in an independent, creative and critical way helping them to produce distinctively personal work; the course introduces the student to a range of contemporary artistic practices some of which have their roots in the traditions of painting and sculpture whilst others exploit the potential of new media such as video, digital photography, digital imaging and internet technologies; a programme of contemporary artistic issues provides the student with a contextual background for their practical studies; they be expected to make visits to exhibitions during the course as this is fundamental to the understanding of current fine art practice; there are occasionally organised visits to other galleries and exhibitions including visits abroad to centres of culture: cities such as Barcelona, Berlin or Paris.
