The student’s own personal creativity and artistic expression are the main focus on this course; the student is able to negotiate their own programme of modules from within the art and design area to suit their own particular interests and aptitudes; through a wide-ranging programme of studio activities that help them to acquire practical expertise, the student is encouraged to develop their own artistic and design interests and learn to think and work in an independent, creative and critical way, helping them produce distinctively personal work; levels 1 and 2 incorporate fine art, graphic design, illustration, product design and interior design on common projects so that the student can learn from different approaches to similar visual problems and issues; at level 3 students develop work for their degree show and this may be either specialised in 1 area or a hybrid of practices; this course introduces participants to a range of contemporary artistic and design practices, some of which have their roots in the traditional approaches, whilst others exploit the potential of new methods of production and imaging, as well as new media such as video, digital photography, digital imaging and internet technologies; a programme of contemporary artistic and design issues provides the student with a contextual background for their practical studies.
