This course is designed to: stimulate visual exploration; encourage intellectual debate; inspire creative practice; support academic study; foster enquiry and innovation; promote independent study; develop skills in research, planning and time management; the course is primarily concerned with approaches to contemporary photographic practices and aims to meet the needs of aspiring practitioners; this course is designed to reflect the evolving nature of photographic practice, where photographers increasingly develop the potential of the medium in unexpected and innovative ways; the 1st year is exploratory and introduces students to basic technical, practical, critical, historical and theoretical skills across the subject of photography; the 2nd year gives more scope for independent research and discovery, whilst the 3rd year brings these experiences together in a dissertation and specialist project; participation in national competitions is strongly encouraged; it is expected that students' work becomes increasingly independent as they progress through the course, and that students work creatively with their peers and external agencies; application deadline: March 2010.
