This degree explores the development of ideas and technical application in the innovative world of digital motion graphics; the student uses traditional and electronic image-making techniques to build an understanding of motion graphics software, producing work for general presentation, the internet and emerging new media; typography, illustration and photography are used to create material for storyboarding and constructing sequences; the student engages in diverse and stimulating projects to communicate effectively and explore time-based media; lectures and demonstrations set the scene for activities and project work undertaken individually or in groups; there are also seminars, discussion sessions and occasional study visits; the 1st year focuses on providing new skills and orientating within the broad subject of graphic design; the 2nd year gives more scope for exploring motion graphics projects and developing further skills; the 3rd year brings these experiences together and encourages the student to develop projects in response to personal and career ambitions; the degree is delivered as a series of modules that cover the technical, creative and contextual aspects of graphic design and motion graphic; students are encouraged to investigate and liaise with all areas of the graphic design industry in order to contextualise study and support and promote future career aspirations; application deadline: March 2010.
