The course produces creative, knowledgeable, confident learners and teachers; as a trainee teacher, students advance their knowledge and understanding of children's development and learning by studying different teaching theories; extensive subject knowledge is developed so students can plan and teach across the curriculum; the course also looks at linking learning across subjects; programmes are designed to nurture and develop their enthusiasm for teaching children across key stages 1 and 2; the training challenges and develops their ideas about how children learn, and about how students learn; students learn how to organise their classroom to meet the needs of the multifaith, multicultural society, to provide an inclusive environment for all children, and to understand the varied expectations of education today; students work in the specialist primary centre, a lively informal area with rooms for practical activity, workshops and seminars; teaching studies equip students to organise, manage and teach whole classes, groups and individual children; students study how different teaching strategies and learning styles can enable children to learn more effectively; students are also trained to plan, assess and evaluate their lessons.
