Courses address professional values and practice; planning, expectation and targets; teaching strategies; monitoring and assessment; classroom management and inclusion; importance is given to the core subjects of English, mathematics, science and information communications technology (ICT); emphasis is also given to religious education and trainees have the opportunity to study for the Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (CCRS); courses are provided in all foundation subjects of the National Curriculum; trainees begin their studies across a broad range of subjects and subsequently make choices and study selected subjects in greater depth; school experience is an integral part of each year of study; successful completion of this course leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), subject to satisfactory performance in skills tests.
