On successful completion of this programme students will have attained a professional qualification in social work, which is recognised by the General Social Care Council (GSCC); applicants are expected to have some paid or voluntary experience relevant to social work or social care prior to making an application; the programme takes 3 years to complete if studied full time, or 4 years if studied part time. The course is made up of both academic study and practice learning within a social care setting; throughout the course students study: principles and practice of social work, law for social workers, psychology, sociology, social policy and research for social workers; there are 2 periods of practice learning of 90 and 110 days, which are carried out in a variety of social care settings;
