Are you fascinated by the complexities of human behaviour?  Do you have an analytical mind and enjoy working with an experimental approach?  If yes, then studying psychology at Northumbria University is the path for you.


Developing your critical knowledge, you will learn from inspirational, approachable, research-focused staff. As well as lectures, you will engage in workshops and practical sessions getting hands-on experience with our state-of-the art facilities such as the Brain Performance and Nutrition Research Centre and the Centre for Sleep Research.

BSc (Hons) Psychology will test your skills and knowledge, allowing you to build confidence and graduate level thinking, enabling you to become work ready.



In developing your understanding of psychology, you will be well on your way to a career in areas such as clinical, forensic, educational, health, counselling psychology as well as education and further study.


Upon graduating with this psychology degree, the British Psychological Society (BPS) will allow you to apply for Graduate Membership of the Society (provided you reach the minimum standard of a second class honours degree); the first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist.

Research

The Department of Psychology has an overarching theme of ‘Psychology of Health and Wellbeing’ that defines its research strategy. Areas of research specialism are based within the following groups:

  • Brain Performance and Nutrition Research Centre
  • Psychology and Communication Technologies Lab
  • Health in Action Group, including Northumbria Centre for Sleep Research
  • Evolution Perception and Behaviour
  • Cognition across the Lifespan
  • Language and Cognition

Further Study

On successful completion of a BSc (Hons) in Psychology you can go onto study a one year MSc.

Location

Northumbria University is located right in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne –one of the UK’s best student cities. It is half an hour away from stunning blue flag beaches, historic castles and rambling countryside. Getting to them is really easy; the North East is connected by Tyne and Wear’s Metro and a great bus network.
