The health studies courses focus on contemporary health and community issues including psychology, sociology, social policy, health improvement and public health and health care ethics; it offers choice in years 2 and 3, allowing students to concentrate on 1 of 3 areas for their choice of degree; year 1 is common to all, introducing the many factors that influence health and wellbeing; students can then progress to the generic, rural health or health and welfare strands of the degree; the generic course aims to enable students to integrate and apply knowledge and understanding on contrasting and contested perspectives on health and wellbeing; the rural health pathway encompasses health and health care issues within the context of rurality, and on issues affecting the quality of life of those residing in rural areas; it equips students with a depth and breadth of understanding relating to an analysis of health and health care issues in the rural conext; the health and welfare course looks at contemporary health welfare and community issues, including specialist study on issues affecting the wellbeing of children and older adults.
