Myerscough College, BA (Hons), Golf Coaching and Performance

This course offers a fast-track route to achieving an Honours degree for students holding a golf-related Foundation degree or Higher National Diploma; the course provides a coaching and performance-focused golf programme and is designed to equip the student with an understanding of the science and practice of golf coaching and performance; there are 2 main areas within golf coaching: 1 at community/club level and the other at a high performance level; the student has the opportunity to specialise in high performance coaching or community/club based coaching; there are opportunities for independent study in the form of a dissertation or a golf project; an ethos of career planning and development runs through the curriculum, in order to develop employability and prepare the student for a successful career in the United Kingdom or overseas; the course is designed to enable successful students to have the skills and knowledge to coach at elite levels or within a community based context; the students has the opportunity to develop their coaching skills working with the College's elite golf squads and golf academy members; in addition, golf coaching skills may be delivered in schools as part of the schools development programme (subject to criminal record bureau clearance); it should be noted that to succeed on this course it is not a pre-requisite to be a low handicap golfer; however, a strong interest in coaching and a desire to improve one’s game is important.
